275 MLD WTP

Ahmedabad, Gujarat

The 275 MLD Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Ahmedabad, developed for the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority, stands as one of the largest non-conventional water treatment plants in India. This innovative facility utilizes cutting-edge technology, replacing conventional clarifiers with advanced tube settlers and flocculators to optimize water treatment processes.

Water intake for the plant is sourced from a branch of the Narmada Main Canal, ensuring a reliable supply of raw water. The WTP features 16 tube settlers, each measuring 14.3 meters by 14.3 meters with a side wall depth of 4 meters. These settlers are designed with hoppers below them, reaching a depth of 6.4 meters, allowing for efficient sedimentation and enhanced water quality.

In addition to the tube settlers, the plant includes multiple filter beds, each sized at 10.3 meters by 11.4 meters with a depth of 4.7 meters. These filter beds are uniquely covered with self-supported domes, providing structural integrity while facilitating effective filtration. Notably, this facility employs an innovative floor nozzle system instead of the traditional PVC lateral system, enhancing water quality but introducing complexity in execution and design due to the need for a false floor with holes for nozzle installation.

Our firm has provided comprehensive structural consultancy for this groundbreaking project, focusing on economical and optimized solutions that meet both performance and budgetary requirements. The successful implementation of this WTP not only addresses the growing water demands of Ahmedabad but also sets a new benchmark for future water treatment facilities across India, showcasing our commitment to sustainable and innovative engineering practices.
