Emami Refinery

Kandla Gujarat

The Emami Refinery at Kandla is a state-of-the-art facility designed to produce refined palm oil, refined soybean oil, and value-added products such as vegetable and bakery fats. With a massive processing capacity of 3,200 TPD, the facility spans a built-up area of 96,000 sqm, strategically located near the sea to optimize logistics and raw material procurement.

One of the most significant challenges in constructing this facility was the presence of marine clay soil, which has an extremely low soil bearing capacity. To address this, the entire project was constructed on pile foundations, ensuring the stability and durability of the structures in such demanding geotechnical conditions. The refinery’s main building is a steel structure measuring 78m x 62m, with multiple steel floors at varying levels to accommodate complex refining processes. Adjacent to this, a 160m x 136m warehouse was built, where we provided detailed civil foundation designs, ensuring it could handle heavy loads and maintain structural integrity over time. A notable feature of the refinery is its extensive tank farm, consisting of 62 tanks with varying capacities. The tanks range in diameter from 5m to 27.5m, heights from 6m to 20m, and weights from 100 MT to 12,000 MT, underscoring the engineering precision required to manage such diverse specifications.

We played a pivotal role in this project, offering GA (General Arrangement) drawings and structural detailing to meet the unique demands of constructing a high-capacity refinery on marine clay soil. This facility stands as a benchmark in refinery construction, overcoming significant geological challenges while enabling Emami to expand its footprint in the edible oil and fats market. Its location and infrastructure not only enhance production efficiency but also position it as a vital player in the region’s industrial ecosystem.
